We are professional movers who provide a reliable and efficient man and van service. If you want to learn how to move your home without a hassle, keep reading. We have prepared a stress-free 10-step moving home checklist for everybody who is moving soon.
1. Start Planning Ahead
We can’t emphasise enough how important it is to start the whole process a few weeks in advance and give yourself enough time to get everything done.
Around four to six weeks prior to the moving day, start decluttering. There are so many things that we own but never use. Luckily, moving is a perfect occasion to get rid of all those things.
2. Shop for Moving Supplies
A lot of people postpone shopping for moving supplies until the last minute, which is a major mistake. Make sure that you equip yourself with enough bubble wrap, packing tape, markers, and boxes as soon as possible.
That way, you can start packing early and avoid feeling stressed.
3. Hire Professional Help
While you can save some money by completing the move by yourself, you will waste a lot of nerves in the process. Moreover, if you are inexperienced, you risk damaging some of your belongings.
That is why we recommend hiring professional movers. Our man and van team can help you dismantle, pack, lift, carry, move, and assemble your belongings, which can be extremely helpful.
4. Pack Smart
Put one box into each room, and start by packing the things that you don’t regularly use but you want to take to your new home. Always put heavy items at the bottom and lighter ones on the top.
Also, don’t forget to tape and label every packed box. You will be grateful that you did once the time to start unpacking comes.
5. Sell, Donate, or Throw Away Things That You Never Use
As we mentioned, moving is a perfect time to get rid of the things that you never use. Don’t be afraid to leave stuff behind; if you are not using something, it is only cluttering your home. Donate old clothes, books that you will never read again, and decorations that you no longer like.
If some pieces of furniture won’t fit into your new home, sell them on eBay.
6. Deal with the Paperwork
Handling paperwork isn’t anyone’s idea of fun, but we have to do it nevertheless. In order to make everything go smoothly, make sure that everything regarding both your old and new place is in order.
Check when you have to vacate your current home and when you can enter your new one. Also, if there are any works in progress, see whether they will be completed before your moving date.
7. Schedule the Move Early
In order to avoid getting stuck in traffic, we recommend that you start the move early in the morning. Not only will that help you avoid feeling stressed, but it will also give you more time to complete everything.
8. Be Calm and Collected on the Moving Day
When the moving day comes, you might feel anxious. However, there is no reason for that. With some help from our man and van service, you can be sure that everything will go smoothly.
9. Start Unpacking
Just like with packing, you need to be smart with unpacking. Finish doing the important things first. Unpack the boxes with some basic kitchen items, as well as necessary bathroom things. Also, make your bed, so that you won’t have to do it once you start feeling exhausted from unpacking.
10. Order Some Food
Finally, make sure that you don’t forget to eat. On the actual day of the move, there is so much going on that people often forget to take care of themselves. Have some food delivered to your new home, and enjoy your first meal at your new place!
